Neuropsychological Evaluation
Clinical neuropsychology is the scientific study and clinical evaluation of brain-behavior relationships. Neuropsychological evaluation involves the measurement of cognitive abilities, emotions, and behavior and the linkage of these to the structure and function of the brain.
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation involves clinical interview, record review, behavioral observations, and results of objective neuropsychological tests. Neuropsychological evaluation results provide information about diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of a variety of neurologic and psychiatric conditions.
At Northeast Evaluation Specialists, we evaluate individuals with a wide range of neurologic and psychiatric backgrounds, including traumatic brain injury, concussion, intellectual and developmental disorders, stroke, dementia, ADHD, learning disabilities, primary mental health disorders impacting cognition, and medical conditions impacting cognition.
Referrals can be made by primary care physicians, neurologists, psychiatric providers, other mental health providers, area agencies, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and attorneys.
The evaluation can range from 2 to 6+ hours in length and involves a variety of paper-and-pencil, computerized, and stimulus-manipulation tasks. Testing usually takes place over the course of 1 or 2 days and a feedback session is offered on a separate date after the evaluation is completed.
